Dave Matthews Band Live at Randall’s Island!

Ash and I went up to NYC last weekend to catch both of the DMB concerts at Randall’s Island. They were amazing! The first night we caught Gov’t Mule’s opening set, and it was pretty good. Warren Haynes came out later to guest with DMB, and I thought they were going to play Jimi Thing, but they started into Cortez the Killer, an awesome cover of a Neil Young tune. Great version. Later on in the show, they started playing #41, and I about shit myself when Béla Fleck came out. Then I actually did shit myself when the rest of the Flecktones came out. They churned out a near half-hour long #41, then went straight into Ants Marching. Crazy.
The next day, we went sightseeing around the city. It was the first time Ash had been there. We went to Times Square, the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building, the WTC site, we saw the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park, saw Grand Central Station, and walked through Central Park. For the two nights we were there, we stayed in a hostel on the upper west side. We had our own room (bunk beds), and we shared a bathroom with ~10 people. The only that sucked is that they never had towels. Only $100 for two people for two nights. Not a bad deal.
The second night we had seats, so that was good. Our dogs were barking from walking around the city all day. Béla came out again for Lie in Our Graves and the rest of the ‘Tones came out on Jimi Thing. Another great concert. These were probably the best two concerts I’ve seen, and I’ve been to 10 or so DMB concerts. It was so awesome to see both my favorite bands share the stage. When the Flecktones were up there, there were 11 people on stage! That’s insane!
The great thing is, we are going to see DMB again this Friday and Saturday down in West Palm. Can’t wait for those shows, too!
